Using mailto tag
I prefer to use a simple mailto tag rather than the Contact form, or even in addition to the Contact form.
However, after I created the page with "Send email" text and then created the standard html mailto tag, I checked to see if it was working properly. Clicking the link brought up the Outlook email box as is usually the case when Outlook is selected by the user as the default email application. In the TO: box, instead of the simple email address, appears the following:

Re: Using mailto tag
Using a mailto link on your site is an invitation to spam. Good luck.

Re: Using mailto tag
Mamtom,
OK, although I have never had any problem with that for the several years my site has been running, I am more than willing to take your advice to heart. But here is the problem I have with it. The form has information headings for the site owner to fill in such as street address, etc. I don't see any content item (of that "Contact Us" page) that can be edited. Where are we supposed to fill in this information. And also if I want to edit any of the other text on that page, such as to explain to a visitor why he is being forced to fill out a form instead of directly sending an email, I can't find a way to do this either -- not even in the edit CSS or edit html. Where would I find this stuff to edit it? |

Re: Using mailto tag
To configure the Contact page, go to Components ->Contacts ->Manage.
You can adjust the parameters to suit your site there.

Re: Using mailto tag
Ahhh,
OK Elpie; got it. I had seen that but had mistakenly thought it was only to manage groups of contacts or something of that nature. But examining it more closely, I was able to make all of the edits I was interested in for the Contact page. And it provides me a choice to show or hide an email address. That part I am considering further. But the choice is available. |

Re: Using mailto tag
Cool - I'm glad thats worked out for you.
In future releases there will be some UI changes. Mambo is so configurable but sometimes the configuration options and parameters are not readily identified. It would be great if you would keep notes of everything you find counter-intuitive and maybe start a thread with a list of things you feel could be changed to improve the user experience. Cheers

Re: Using mailto tag
Ok, Thanks!
I will keep that in mind as something to put together in the new year after the rush of the Holidays. Time spent re-configuring the site is near the end, potentially freeing up some space to devote to that. Have a Merry one!! |
