Coppermine photo gallery

I had been considering some kind of a photo gallery or slide show on my site. Then, on Mamtom's suggestion to another recent forum question, I downloaded Coppermine photo gallery. I have unzipped the file and the folder now sits on my computer. My question is where exactly in the directory do I upload this to? And any basic instructions on how to place a gallery into the site would help.

Thanks much!

Re: Coppermine photo gallery

willyam8,

Coppermine (aka CPG) comes with decent instructions, and they have a good support forum. I created a separate folder (directory) called Coppermine, and installed the CPG files there. Because I wanted CPG integrated with my SMF forum, I opted for CPG to share the same database with SMF. Again, this is all spelled out in the CPG documentation. If I wasn't integrating with anything, I'd use a standalone database for CPG.

Note: "Integration" as used above means that my forum members log into the forum and, when they visit CPG, are automatically logged in there. Your application of CPG may not need the integration feature.

... any basic instructions on how to place a gallery into the site would help.
That would depend on what you're trying to do. In my case, I don't link any CPG albums or photos into my forum or my web site. What I do is present a link to the gallery &/or links to albums and photos. If you could be more specific about what you're trying to do with CPG and Mambo, maybe I can provide a better answer. However, please remember that this is a Mambo support forum, not a CPG support forum.

Re: Coppermine photo gallery

Mamtom,
I frequently see a slide show pane on various websites where you can click on an arrow to advance through the various pictures (or whatever the content); and I simply wanted to be able to have something like that on my site. I don't know if Coppermine does that for me or not. It may not be what I'm looking for. But whatever I use, I assume it has to be integrated into my Mambo site somehow. And that is what I was asking. I don't know enough about how that is done. I was imagining that it may be like a Component or something like that.

Re: Coppermine photo gallery

I think you might be confused. CPG is not a Mambo component; It's a standalone, wonderful software package that I make a lot of use of.

Notwithstanding the above, You can integrate &/or link various pieces of CPG into your web site.

I have no idea how to integrate/include a CPG slide show into Mambo, but that might be a question for the CPG support forum. If/when I get a chance, I'll take a look at it, but no guarantees.
